Ms. Stith is a lifelong Alaskan passionate about Arctic peoples’ well-being. She organizes events at the Polar Institute, handles communication including Twitter and the Polar Perspectives series, and produces the New Security Beat column Navigating the Poles. Before joining the Wilson Center she lived and worked in Tromsø, Norway as a Hart Leadership Fellow and, later, as an Associate at the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat. She provided assistance to Indigenous Peoples' organizations in their international policy work and supported events like the 6th Arctic Leaders' Summit. As a first generation college graduate from Duke University, Michaela earned Graduation with Distinction in Environmental Science & Policy for her thesis on Arctic cruise ship regulation. |

He has volunteered his time and resources to The Children’s Place, A Child advocacy center where he serves on the board of directors for the last 15yrs. |

Director of Human Trafficking Recovery Services

Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery that occurs in every state, including Alaska. The NHTH works closely with service providers, law enforcement, and other professionals in Alaska to serve victims and survivors of trafficking, respond to human trafficking cases, and share information and resources. Stacie Yates currently lives in Alaska with her six children for the past 18 and she is a survivor of commercial sexual exploitation at the age of 17 in North Carolina. "I have a deep passion to help girls and boys who fall into the category I did, being a youth needing to do whatever needs to be done to survive. Yates currently works at MY House as the Director of Human Trafficking Recover Services and ASHTA Coordinator (Alaska Stop Human Trafficking Alliance). |

Arctic Winter Games

John's career includes both public and private sector recreation management in Anchorage and Eagle River. From 1974 to 1997, he was involved in the development, construction and management of four indoor ice arenas, and served on numerous youth and adult sports advisory commissions. A lifelong Alaskan, John has been an active participant, coach, and volunteer in the sports community since the early 60's. He has extended his volunteer and leadership commitments with various organizations including AWG Team Alaska, the Chugiak-Eagle River chamber of Commerce, Ice Skating Institute of America, and Rotary International. John has been involved with Arctic Winter Games since 1974, and was the Host Society President for the Eagle River Games in 1996. John's business experience and strong commitment to healthy youth and adult activities will be beneficial to the future successes of the Arctic Winter Games. |

I'm currently the President of the Mat-Su Convention & Visitor Bureau and President of the board of Alaska Police and Fire Chaplains’ Ministries. I've been a Rotarian for over 10 years and have held a variety of offices with the Susitna Rotary Club and am Past President of the Wasilla Rotary Club and Past Deputy District Governor for Rotary District 5010 (serving under District Governor Sue Foley). |
